Letting agents turned out in force at the first my|deposits disputes workshop to hear the latest advice on tenancy deposit protection.
The interactive workshop, held at the Holiday Inn Kensington, London, was oversubscribed, with more than 100 agents attending in a coup for the organisation which was set up by the National Landlords Association with landlords, rather than agents, in mind.
Agents were given insights and practical advice on the key issues surrounding dispute resolution, including how to resolve issues with a tenant before resolution is even necessary, what to include in an Assured Shorthold Tenancy agreement and how to assess fair wear and tear.
A senior adjudicator gave delegates a step-by-step guide on what they look for when dealing with dispute cases, while Nick Lyons from inventory firm No Letting Go gave practical advice on how to prepare an inventory that would stand up before an adjudicator.
Eddie Hooker, CEO of my|deposits, said: “This roadshow showed that there is huge demand from letting agents for more information on how to handle disputes and how to prepare a case for adjudication.
“We received some very positive feedback from delegates after the event and we are planning to run more dispute workshops in key cities in the UK early next year.
“We may experiment more with the format of the event, to ensure letting agents are better informed when managing a dispute with a tenant.”
